Basically, a "wiki" is a website that is universally editable; that is, anyone who visits can edit the content. That may sound like a bad idea, and if abused it very well could be, but it can also be the best way to collect as much information as possible on any given topic. Rather than relying on a single source or expert, anyone who has any bit of knowledge to add to a given subject can do so easily with a wiki-style site. For probably the ultimate example of a wiki in action, visit www.Wikipedia.org. So why make Big Green City wiki? Well, if the idea of BGC is to provide a comprehensive resource for local green news and information on green businesses and services, what better way to collate that data than by hearing from the people who know best: those who know! With a wiki, if you know of a business that provides eco-friendly service but you don't see it listed on our index, you can add it yourself! If you have some specialized knowledge on some niche subject, like, say, the environmental benefits of keeping figs in your blanket, you can write an article and post it on the site for others to read. You might call it the democratic dissemination of information, but I prefer to call it a community! And, after all, community involvement is at the heart of the green movement. We can't move forward if we're not all walking together...or something like that.
